      IBIE 2019 preview

The stage is set for the 2019 International Baking Industry Exposition (IBIE). Come September, more than 20,000 baking professionals from around the world will descend on Las Vegas to network, learn and discover the latest innovations in baking supplies, ingredients and equipment.

Also known as the Baking Expo, IBIE was founded more than 30 years ago by the American Bakers Association (ABA) and the Baking Equipment Manufacturers and Allieds (BEMA). In 2010, the Retail Bakers of America (RBA) joined the partnership.

The triennial show is the largest baking trade show in North America and recognised worldwide as the grain-based industry’s largest, most comprehensive event, a “working show,” held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from September 7-11 and features more than 900 leading manufacturers and suppliers covering more than 700,000 square feet of exhibit space.

Attendees and exhibitors can see what’s new at IBIE with programmes for networking, hands-on learning and inspiration.

      A bigger, broader IBIE
The organisers look to revamp the exhibition each time and as well as include old favourites they add fresh, exciting features to the mix to ensure everyone – whether they’re first-time visitors or have been multiple times – has an exceptional experience.

The planning committee behind IBIE understands the significance of this event, and for IBIE 2019 offers additional show features – bigger opportunities to learn, connect and explore a broader range of topics and solutions.

Bigger learning opportunities come in the form of the world’s broadest baking
education program, IBIEducate, which offers more than 100 seminars and hands-on training sessions covering everything from the art of artisan baking to automation and technology trends in bakery production.

Thanks to attendee feedback there is the addition of a full day of education sessions to this year’s programming, which takes place on Saturday, September 7. Visitors to the show floor, can also advantage of education opportunities including the Fresh Take Talks (a popular returning feature) and the all new RBA Bakers Center, which offers live demonstrations from some of the biggest names in baking.

There is also a special focus on artisan baking at this year’s event with expanded artisan education content and two new artisan marketplaces on the show floor, presented in partnership with Puratos and Bread Bakers Guild of America, respectively.

IBIE is presenting a broader view of the global baking industry on the show floor via a partnership with iba (trade show, Germany) to bring Virtual Bakery Tours. Put the virtual reality headset on and take a behind-the-scenes look at unique artisinal and industrial bakeries in the U.S., Greece, Germany, Austria and several other locations.

      Access to key industry suppliers
IBIE will unveil a new state-of-the-art pavilion introducing show elements specifically produced to support the growth of the artisan and specialty market segment.

Curated competitions, staged demonstrations from celebrity chefs and Certified Master Bakers, tastings, expert Q&A sessions, exhibitor demonstrations and much more will bring the pavilion to life.

The show floor space has been designed to offer a truly immersive experience for artisan and specialty bakers, cake decorators and pastry chefs with learning formats to serve all needs, including hands-on demonstrations and product and ingredient exhibits.

“With technology and automation becoming increasingly prevalent in our industry, it’s important to recognise and continue to invest in the artisan movement,” says Joe Turano, IBIE chair.

“IBIE 2019 has focused its efforts to address the unique needs of this growing market segment. This new show floor experience will offer a comprehensive array of education and demonstrations to ensure the artisan community has the tools they need to flourish. Our goal is that artisan and specialty bakers leave IBIE 2019 feeling well-served, connected and inspired.”

      Dedicated day of learning
IBIEducate offers every role and every segment opportunities to learn. Targeted sessions are designed to allow attendees to gain ideas and techniques to perfect their craft, and increase sales.

Additionally, IBIE day of learning – Saturday, September 7th – will have tailored sessions for artisan, cake and retail bakers to enhance and grow their businesses. The day will offer hands-on workshops taught by Julien Otto from the French Pastry School and cake decorator certification classes taught by Mike Terry and Bronwen Weber, who has appeared on television programme, The Food Network. Other courses include talent management classes with a concentration on acquiring, developing, and retaining staff.

Andrea Henderson, chair of the IBIE Education Task Force says: “Education remains one of the primary reasons to attend a trade event. IBIEducate gives attendees more than 100 tailored sessions to participate in during the show—the largest education program IBIE has ever offered, and with a new full day dedicated to learning prior to show opening, IBIE is building on an industry leading offering.”

Classes have been broken into specialised tracks to deliver the latest techniques and trends that inspire creativity and increase sales. Forward-looking topics include:

      • Baking with Edible Cannabis.
